FAQs

Q. Do you need any tools to fit the NousCap?
A. No tools are needed to fit the NousCap; you might need a screwdriver to fit the tether, it depends on how your original one was fitted.
Q. Is the NousCap made in the UK?
A. Yes, it was designed in the UK; it is produced, assembled and packaged in the UK.
Q. When will a NousCap be available for my vehicle as it is not listed yet?
A. You should check the Website periodically. In the future the Company intends to cover in excess of 90% of the UK car parc. This will focus on vehicles produced since the year 2000, but some of these caps when produced will fit older models of other vehicles as well, and those vehicles will be listed as well.
Q. How long should the NousCap last?
A. If treated carefully and used as instructed the NousCap will last for the life of the vehicle.
Q. How often does misfuelling occur in the UK?
A. Different organizations have different figures, and a lot of misfuels are not reported to any organizations. It is believed by some, that upto 200,000 times a year, a vehicle will have the wrong fuel put into it in the UK.
Q. What should I do if I am at the fuel pump, and I notice I have put the wrong fuel into my vehicles fuel tank?
A. Firstly do not panic. Do not lock or unlock the vehicle. Do not start the engine or switch on the vehicles ignition. Try to get some help to push the vehicle away from the fuel pumps and park it in a safe place. Contact either your emergency breakdown company, a local mobile "wrong fuel" drain company (this can be found in the yellow pages or on the internet) or a local garage that is willing to come and assist you.
Q. Will my vehicle be permanently damaged if I have misfuelled it?
A. This depends on many factors. If you have driven it with the wrong fuel in it, then there is a good chance it will be damaged, but it depends on the make and age of the vehicle. Also the amount of wrong fuel in relation to the amount of correct fuel could be a factor. If you have not driven it, or started the engine with the wrong fuel in it, there is a good chance that no damage has been done.
Q. Does my vehicle insurance policy cover me in the event of me misfuelling my vehicle?
A. A few insurance companies still cover you in the event of you putting the wrong fuel into your vehicle, but this is gradually being phased out by most of the insurance companies due to the high costs, and the growing number of occurrences. You should examine your policy document to see if there is any reference to misfuelling or adding the wrong fuel to your vehicle.
Q. Will my emergency breakdown company cover me if I misfuel my vehicle?
A. No, they will come out and assist you in removing the wrong fuel from the vehicle, but you will be charged for this, typically between £150 to £300.
Q. I tried to engage the correct pump nozzle at a petrol station but it would not fit into the NousCap?
A. Sometimes the ends of the fuel nozzles become damaged. You must never force the nozzle into the NousCap, this will damage the NousCap. You should use another fuel pump or if that is inconvenient use the override tool to engage the mechanism in the NousCap. Damaged fuel nozzles should be reported to the filling stations operators.
Q. The Animation shows a NousCap with a lock fitted, but there is no option to purchase one with a lock?
A. In the future there will be an option to purchase a NousCap with a lock fitted.
Q. Are petrol vehicles misfuelled?
A. Yes they are, but only in about 10% of instances, is the wrong fuel put into a petrol vehicle.
Q. Does misfuelling affect the enviroment?
A. Yes it does. The contaminated fuel has to be removed from the vehicle. This will normally be transferred to a storage tank on a van. It then has to be stored in an appropriate storage tank in a yard. Once the storage tank is full it will be emptied by a mobile tanker, and then taken to a petrochemical plant for reprocessing.
Q. Why should I always wear plastic gloves when re-fuelling a vehicle?
A. Fuels are aggressive chemicals that can cause or aggravate various skin complaints or dis-orders. Residues of fuel can be found on the fuel nozzle handles sometimes. Quite often there will be fuel residue inside the fuel nozzle which will pass onto the NousCap during the re-fuelling process.
Q. If I drive my vehicle in other countries will the NousCap still work effectively?
A. The fuel pump nozzles used in the UK are standardised in Europe and some other countries throughout the world. If you come across non-standardised nozzles you can use the override tool.
